playing w/ the computer

I had an English tutorial this morning. The student wrote me a sentence that made me happy for the whole morning.

"He is playing with the computer ..."
(Sorry, I cannot remember the complete sentence.)

The student got it grammatically correct.

It's just "computer" is a dead object that I cannot play with because it does not respond as a living thing.

I am playing with my friends.
I am playing with a dog.
I am playing with living things.
How about "I am playing with a doll"?

Mayb I am wrong. Maybe computers are so powerful that they can interact with people.
